East Kilbride MSP Collette Stevenson s urging constituents to have their say in a consultation about plans to close ticket offices and reduce ticket office opening hours.
ScotRail’s consultation is reviewing ticket office opening hours and the proposals would affect East Kilbride train station office with it closed early.
It comes as plans to dual as well as electrify the line between East Kilbride and Busby were scrapped in a U-turn by Transport Scotland. There now will be electrification only.
Ms Stevenson said in a debate in the Scottish Parliament - tabled by Tory MSP Graham Simpson - that her preferred option remains the dualling of the track along with electrification.
ScotRail's website states in relation to the ticket office consultation: "No staff will lose their jobs and will instead be redeployed to provide enhanced customer service on the frontline."
Ms Stevenson said: “I know a number of constituents will be concerned by these proposed changes – it is so important therefore for everyone to make their views known. You can read the consultation online and submit your thoughts via post or email.
"I do not believe these plans will lead to an improvement on current arrangements in terms of quality of service and the range of services and I will be submitting my views on these proposals.
"Products available to passengers would be significantly reduced at the times the ticket offices would no longer be open.
"Additionally, in a few short months Abellio will no longer be in charge of our railways, so it makes very little sense for them to be consulting on major changes such as these.”
The consultation is available at ScotRail's website.
Members of the public can submit their views in writing to Transport Focus Freepost (RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ), PO Box 5594, Southend on Sea, SS1 9PZ, or email schedule17.sr@transportfocus.org.uk
