East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP, Dr Lisa Cameron, met with EK Youth Disability Sports Club to donate £150 towards their activities supporting inclusion for people with disabilities in sport.
Dr Lisa Cameron MP, Chair of the Disability All Party Parliamentary Group in the House of Commons said she was wowed by the abilities of young people attending the club.
The club also recently secured a £5000 grant from the Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan), local administrators of the Scottish Government’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.
Ms Cameron said she was delighted that funding would be used to:
- encourage and promote participation in sport and recreation for young people with special needs
- provide opportunities for young people to develop their sporting skills to competitive levels
- promote and support local and national sporting competitions
- encourage helpers and volunteers to take part in coach education courses specifically for disabled sportspeople
Ms Cameron added: "It was great to meet up with EK Youth Disability Sports Club again following from lockdown and hear of their plans for the coming year.
"The club is doing exceptional work, I continue to support its progress and wish those attending every ongoing success for the coming year."
