Householders in East Kilbride are being urged to be extra vigilant following reports of cold callers operating in the town.
South Lanarkshire Consumer and Trading Standards issued a warning online about bogus workmen brazenly going door-to-door in East Kilbride offering gardening and landscaping services.
Offering valuable advice to householders, the consumer advice service said that agreeing to work with cold callers can be risky as you may not be able to contact them if something goes wrong.
When you agree to work in your home, your cancellation rights, along with all associated costs, timescales and the nature of the work should be outlined in a written contract, which you should be given a copy of.
If you’ve signed up at your home, over the phone or online, you’ll have 14 days in which to change your mind about the work. If you need work done, research companies online.
Consumers should not accept the first quote given – the advice is to get three quotes for work and do plenty of research on the company before going ahead.
And always check the Buy With Confidence list of trusted traders for a suitable company first.
Anyone who has been approached by a rogue trader should report the incident to police on 101.
