East Kilbride boss says business is done for the summer after squad overhaul

East Kilbride boss Kevin Rutkiewicz says he’s finished in the transfer market after an intense summer rebuilding at K-Park.

The former Aberdeen and St Johnstone defender reckons bringing in midfielder Danny McManus from St Mirren and goalkeeper Adam McLean from Irvine Meadow completes his squad for the Lowland League season.

Rutkiewicz says even if a real star pops up, it’s likely to unbalance his squad, at this point.

The Kilby boss last week added ex-Hamilton Accies winger Kyle Munro and defensive midfielder Ben Hughes from Kilmarnock’s under-18s, while young goalkeeper Mateusz Miller was promoted from the development squad.

That takes Kilby’s summer captures to 14, following Jonathan Page, Conor Morgan, Andy Black, Billy Mortimer, Stephen Bronsky, Ronan Hughes, Bob McHugh, Jack Ruddy, Gary Miller and Dylan MacDonald.

Rutkiewicz said: “We’re just about there. Even if something really big comes up at this point, we’re happy with where the squad is, and the balance is good.

“If anybody does come up, even if it was a star, we’ve got to look at how it affects the balance and how the squad functions.

“We’ve got to be on the ball with it, it’s a massive period for us now to get it all to gel together over the next six weeks.

“I think the hard work has been done in terms of bringing players in, but it’s a massive period for us now to get it all to gel together over the next six weeks.”

Rutkiewicz is pleased with his most recent signings.

He said: “Kyle coming in gives us a balance, in terms of competition for places, and he’s very versatile as well, so we can definitely utilise that.

“Young Ben, I run the exit trials every year, Ben stood out for me and was one I was very impressed with.

“He's only a kid, he’s 18 years old and a project, but I think it’s a market that we can dive into and give him exposure.”

Kevin added: “With Adam, we needed somebody who was going to push, who was progressive, and who we could take on a journey.

“I’ve kept tabs on him. I feel that he’s ready to push for a number one.

“With Daniel we’ve given him this home, he’s got a lot more stability, and he can see a genuine direction in his life, not just in football.”
