Hello and welcome to today's weather report! We have quite the whirlwind of weather events to discuss, so hold on tight as we take you on this meteorological rollercoaster.
Starting off in the Midwest and plains, we have some good news. The storm that wreaked havoc in those regions is now making its way towards the east, leaving behind a trail of snow and ice. There were intense conditions, so unpleasant and downright dangerous that it felt like Mother Nature was having a bad day. Strong winds ripped apart a metal barn in South Dakota, showcasing the true strength of this system. However, fret not, as this storm is starting to wrap up.
But wait, there's more! This system is just a part of a larger storm system that has been making waves for several days. We have a low-pressure area situated in the central interior that is detaching from the main storm. This low is set to bring rainfall to the East Coast, causing wet conditions for major cities such as Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.
Now, I know what you're thinking, rain on the East Coast in December? You better believe it! This is not just any drizzle; it's going to be a wet morning for all these cities. The Weather Prediction Center has even issued a marginal risk of minor flooding due to the prolonged rainfall. So, keep an eye out and be cautious as you travel through these areas today.
And the rain keeps coming! As we move into Thursday, it appears that Mother Nature has a sneaky surprise in store for the East Coast. More rain is expected, so don't be fooled by the dry morning. This low-pressure system will loop around and bring some snow showers to the lower Great Lakes region as well.
Let's talk about airport delays because, unfortunately, rain usually means delays. LaGuardia, JFK, and Logan airports may experience some cumulative delays due to the rainfall in the area. So, if you are planning on jetting off, keep an eye on the forecasts and plan accordingly.
Now, I don't want to leave the West Coast feeling left out, because, hey, we have weather over there too! While not a major storm, there is another system moving in, bringing rainfall to central and northern California, as well as the coastlines of Oregon and Washington. It seems like winter is arriving fashionably late this year.
As for temperatures, well, it seems like December has decided to be a bit rebellious. The Windy City, Chicago, is looking at a modest 44 degrees, while New York City will be a little more mild at 49 degrees. Meanwhile, down in Atlanta, where I am located, we are enjoying a balmy 60 degrees. I mean, come on, December, where's the chill?
So, my weather-conscious friends, that's a wrap on today's weather report. Bundle up, stay dry, and brace yourselves for whatever Mother Nature has in store for us next. Stay safe out there!
