Pediatric cancers, though relatively rare, present unique challenges and demands. Unlike adult cancers, which are often linked to lifestyle and environmental factors, pediatric cancers are typically the result of genetic mutations and cellular changes secondary to ionizing radiation exposure during development, some chemotherapy drugs e.g.some alkylating drugs. Some genetically determined underlying conditions such as down’syndrome, li Fraumeni syndrome, ataxia telangiectasia have been found to be increasingly associated with childhood leukemias. Early detection is paramount in managing these diseases, significantly improving outcomes and survival rates.
