Earl Spencer doubles down on book claim over King’s alleged Diana comment

  • Earl Spencer has defended allegations in his new book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister , claiming he previously told journalist Barbara Walters in 1997 that King Charles said "we'll forget her soon enough" after Princess Diana 's death.
  • The alleged remark occurred during a dispute over whether Prince William and Prince Harry should walk behind their mother's funeral cortege.
  • Buckingham Palace issued a rare response to the claims, stating that "the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory".
  • Speaking on CBS Mornings, Earl Spencer accused Buckingham Palace of gaslighting him by attempting to pretend there is something wrong with his memory.
  • Earl Spencer also confirmed he reassured Prince Harry after the release of the book that the memoir contained nothing embarrassing about him.
