Eamonn Holmes wades into Holly and Phil ITV This Morning debate

Eamonn Holmes has waded into the debate about the future of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning and said they don't bring any 'special talent' to the show. Holmes, 61, who was a presenter on the ITV show for 15 years before being let go by the This Morning team in 2021 where he was replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Today on his GB News Breakfast show with Isabel Webster he said millions will tune in today to see what happens. ITV yesterday confirmed both would be on the This Morning sofa today, despite reports of a rift.

Eamonn said: "These people will be tuned in to TV today to find out what’s going on there. I reckon it’s a no-show from him today." Isabel added: "They were the butt of a few of the jokes at the BAFTAs last night went then that’s a sign. Perhaps the public is turning on their reign."

Eamonn added: "But it won’t matter what he does. He’s brought in a lawyer. She’s brought PR people, when the public sniff that they’re as false as those who know them know them to be then the public will give up and stop watching and that will be the end of that. The programme could survive. It doesn’t matter who presents the programme. And then they don’t bring any special talent."

However he predicted that record viewing figures would be the result of all the speculation. He added: “I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors.

"They may or may not be together on the telly today. The public surely will suss that there's no chemistry, that it's a broken fit between the two of them and that This Morning does not depend on who presents it.

"It's an institution, it will carry on no matter who presents it and anyone can check the viewing figures, there's no difference between whether they present it or anyone else."

Recently, Phil touched on the speculation about them both drifting apart as he confessed that it’s been a tough time for them both. He told The Sun: “As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We're the best of friends - as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I've been there for her."
