Eamonn Holmes has been praised by fans as he shared an update about his recovery amid his chronic pain battle.
The 64-year-old, who recently disclosed his reliance on carers for “simple tasks”, relies on a walking frame and crutches to assist with mobility following surgery on his back, and just two weeks ago, he shared on Instagram that standing up remained a struggle.
Now, in his latest update, Holmes proudly revealed a new device that is helping him walk with more ease and discussed his determination to overcome his physical setbacks.
In a new Instagram post, which he captioned, “Trying to remember what it felt like to have legs that worked”, he said: “This is my latest exploit. This is what is called an anti-gravity treadmill.
“The reason it’s called anti-gravity is you’ll see down here, I’m being supported by quite a big balloon. The balloon holds my weight,” he added of how the machine works.
“What it does is the machine, I can walk and run in this. It helps my legs and body remember what it was like to move like this before things went wrong.
“This gives me a certain amount of freedom and the idea is that I build up muscle memory and things will happen, hopefully in the future.
“For the moment, I’ll do half an hour on this, cheers.”
After sharing his update, he was inundated with messages of support from followers. One penned: “Loosing mobility is such a struggle. I sincerely hope things improve for you and that you will be skipping along soon.”
Another commented: “I really hope this works for you Eamonn. It’s no fun being in pain all the time. Keep going”.
In 2016, the presenter underwent double-hip replacement surgery after enduring years of acute pain. Two years later, he shared how he was struck with the shingles on his son Declan's wedding day.
Then in 2021, his chronic back pain began unexpectedly and was forced to use a walking stick as a result. Holmes soon discovered the cause was three slipped discs that affected the movement of his right leg.
In September 2022, the former This Morning host took a break from his GB News show to undergo crucial back surgery for his chronic pain, which had started due to a dislocated pelvis leading to the slipped discs.
Despite undergoing surgery and physiotherapy, his mobility issues persisted, forcing him to rely on others for simple tasks, which he described as “soul-destroying”.
Just two weeks into his recovery, he fell down 18 stairs at his Weybridge home, hitting the stone floor and breaking his shoulder.
A year after his spinal surgery, he underwent a spine and neck stretching procedure in September 2023 after admitting he “couldn't walk”.
Despite his health struggles, the Northern Irish presenter recently shared his delight earlier this month when he stood unaided.
He captioned the post: “Hard to stand up but next my aim is to walk. Off to a birthday party today. What about you?”Aside from his health woes, Holmes has recently been battling heartbreak as he and wife Ruth Langsford announced their divorce last month after 13 years of marriage.
