Eamonn Holmes shares details of nasty fall that left him with broken shoulder as he makes TV return

Eamonn Holmes gave worried fans an update on his health as he finally returned to work after months of chronic pain struggles and two operations on his back and shoulder.

The 63-year-old was back to present his breakfast show on GB News on Monday morning, after taking a break from his presenting duties for almost four months to undergo a range of treatments to relieve the chronic pain he has been suffering with. Last week, Eamonn's wife Ruth Langsford revealed on Loose Women that he had suffered a nasty fall and broken his shoulder just days after undergoing an operation on his back.

Fans were left concerned last month after Eamonn shared a saddening health update on social media, calling his condition "soul destroying" as he opened up about having to depend on others to carry out everyday tasks due to his mobility issues. But the presenter appeared to be in better spirits as he teased his imminent return to TV in a video on Sunday.

In the clip posted on Twitter, Eamonn explained: "I got some back surgery, I’ve had disc problems for a year and a half or so, and then got some back surgery, which affected one of my legs, which led to me falling downstairs, led to me breaking my shoulder. So I had a leg that didn't work and a shoulder that didn't work, and lots of other things in between.

"But here I am," he continued. "I feel that there are only so many boxsets that I can watch or recommend to you, and I'm not better, but I'm better than I was.

"And I've decided to make an attempt to go back to work on GB News from tomorrow on the basis that work, hopefully, will heal me. Any of you who are long-term sick or in any way convalescing, particularly at home, will know that there's a lot of frustration involved in it.

"And for me, I think I'm going to give it a go, be back to work, and hopefully get better as a result of doing day-to-day things. Now, on a day-to-day basis, all I need is you to be there."

Eamonn was welcomed back to GB News by co-host Isabel Webster, as viewers were quick to send in comments expressing their delight at seeing him back on their screens. As the pair read out some of the messages, Eamonn responded to fans asking what had caused him to take time off: "Basically, I can't walk."

As Isabel remarked that his recent operation had "set him back", Eamonn replied: "It set me back, and it made me fall downstairs. My leg gave way and I fell down 18 stairs."

As his co-host suggested that he shouldn't have been climbing the stairs, Eamonn quickly retorted: "Well, what am I supposed to do? How do I get to bed? So I fell down the spiral staircase and smashed my right shoulder."

The presenter also scolded Isabel for a mistake she made while welcoming him back. "The first thing you did was lean on my shoulder," he pointed out, prompting Isabel to apologise to him.
