Eamonn Holmes is struggling to sleep, but is it stress? Is it insomnia? No, it’s Ruth Langsford’s snoring...
The former This Morning presenter complains “the noise from her throat and nostrils prevents me getting a great deal of shut-eye” and as a result, sleep is “something that eludes me day in, day out”.
Eamonn, who now hosts an early morning broadcast on GB News, continues: “Lack of sleep is just something I’ve come to accept as part of my job as a breakfast television anchor. You’d think, after presenting morning TV for as long as I have, I’d have been able to master an appropriate sleeping routine. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
“One in three men say they are regularly kept awake by their partner’s snoring. So it seems I am not alone.
“Ruth loves to sleep. Not only does she love sleep, she has an incredible gift of going out like a light once her head hits the pillow. Sometimes I check to see if she’s still breathing.
“The reason I can do this is the noise from her throat and nostrils prevents me getting a great deal of shut-eye of my own.”
He has no idea if he’s just as guilty of sawing logs in the night, “as nothing stands a chance of waking her”, so neither of them can be sure, despite being married for 12 years.
“Anyway,” he adds in Best magazine. “Through the din, I can’t help but look at and just admire my Sleeping Beauty.”
He clawed that one back well.
