Eamonn Holmes claims Phillip Schofield was 'sacked' as he rages 'Holly knows the truth'

Eamonn Holmes didn't hold back as he shared his thoughts on live TV for the first time since Phillip Schofield's exit from This Morning at the weekend.

The presenter was fronting Monday's GB News with co-host Isabel Webster as he laid into his former colleague's announcement that he released on Saturday, telling viewers he was stepping down from his role on the ITV daytime show after two decades on screen.

Speaking about the reported "feud" between the presenters, Eamonn said: "Holly knows the truth, the story is with her."

Isabel then added as she touched on Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary stepping in for Monday's instalment of This Morning: "All of this comes after the big announcement from Phillip Schofield that he was stepping down..."

Interrupting, Eamonn remarked: "Please, let's stop this, he was sacked."

"All this nonsense about, 'I've decided to step down' I'm sure you did," he sarcastically continued. "Now here's your P45, now step down. Why do we propagate this language? 'I've decided to step down' and [Holly] says the couch won't feel the same without him people there. Well she wanted him not there, so why is she moaning about the couch not feeling the same for? They deserve each other."

Eamonn, who has never been shy about sharing his feelings on his ex coworker, was praised by fans for his honest outburst.

One tweeted: "Good old @EamonnHolmes no hold barred and straight to the point. They want a Schofield on the couch I’ll step in."

Another wrote: "Well done Eamon, having worked with them both, if there’s anyone that knows how false they both are it’s you," and a third added: "Go Eamonn have your say! So real!!"

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby presented This Morning for the last time together on Thursday (ITV)

On Saturday, Holly shared a statement on Instagram addressing her former co-host's exit: “It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”

Meanwhile Alison and Dermott addressed This Morning viewers at the top of the show with a statement. As they opened the programme, Alison said: "Now we can't start today's show without paying tribute to the man who has been on the sofa for two decades, Phillip Schofield.

"Everyone on and off the screen at This Morning wants to say a big thank you to Phil who helped make this show a success," Dermot added.

Alison said: "Quite simply, we all know he is one of the best live television broadcasters this country has ever had and we and all the team wish him all the best for the future.

Dermot said: "So Holly has now taken a break over half term and she will be back in the studio in two weeks time, on Monday 5th of June."
