Eamon Ryan advises shorter showers and not filling kettle as ways to save on energy bills

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, Minister Eamon Ryan has some energy-saving suggestions for the Irish public to follow.

Under plans being formulated by Government, Minister Ryan is set to bring a package of new measures to help people deal with the spiralling cost of living.

Major energy providers like SSE Airtricity, Electric Ireland and Bord Gais have all announce massive price increases of between 20% and 30% in the last couple of weeks.

Before this plan is published, Minister Ryan is set to launch a public awareness campaign on the everyday actions we can do to reduce our energy bills.

According to the Irish Times, these energy-saving tips could include taking shorter showers, reducing car journeys by one per week and instead walk/cycle or take public transport.

Other measures likely to be included in the awareness campaign include turning down the thermostat by 1 degree and not filling your kettle all the way.

The Public Service Obligation Levy which costs energy consumers €57 per year is set to be removed in October, according to the Irish Times and could "even be set at a negative rate."

In the coming months, the inflation rate is set to surge to over 8%, a level not seen since the start of the 1980s.
