The Eagles reportedly made another move to bolster their secondary on Thursday, after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with former Browns cornerback Greedy Williams, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The terms of the deal are unknown at this time.
Thursday’s news comes on the heels of the Eagles locking up two of their starting cornerbacks to new deals in recent days. Philadelphia reportedly re-signed Pro Bowl corner Darius Slay earlier Thursday after nearly opting to release the 10-year veteran, a move that came just two days after second-team All-Pro James Bradberry inked a three-year extension.
A second-round pick by Cleveland in 2019, Williams, a former star at LSU, departs the franchise after an up-and-down four seasons. After starting 20 games his first two seasons, including 12 games as a rookie, Williams started in one of his 11 appearances in 2022 and recorded just 11 tackles while primarily being utilized on special teams.
Given his experience as both a starter and reserve, It remains to be seen what type of role Williams will take on in Philadelphia, where the 25-year-old will look to have a fresh start after an injury-plagued first few seasons. Williams missed the entire 2020 campaign due to a nerve injury in his shoulder. He also missed the first five weeks of the ’22 season with a hamstring injury.
Following his return from the nerve injury, Williams went on to start in eight of his 16 games played in ’21, turning in his best season thus far with 41 tackles, 10 pass deflections and two interceptions. For his career, Williams has recorded 99 tackles, 12 passes defenses, two interceptions and one forced fumble in 39 games played (21 starts).
