Eagles’ announcer Merrill Reese on Jalen Hurts: His arm strength is right there with top QB’s

Much has been made about Jalen Hurts’ and his perceived lack of arm strength.

One of the biggest concerns about Hurts’ future with the franchise stems from the perception that the third-year quarterback lacks the big-time arm strength needed to leaded Philadelphia back to postseason prominence.

Over his first two seasons, Hurts has averaged 12.3 yards per completion, the 3rd-highest average in the NFL since 2020 among QBs with a minimum of 500 attempts (behind DeShaun Watson’s 12.6 and Jimmy Garoppolo’s 12.4), according to Reuben Frank.

Hurts has the 3rd-highest average by any Eagles quarterback in the last 50 years (behind Michael Vick’s 12.9 and Ron Jaworski’s 12.9) per Frank.

Head coach Nick Sirianni previously gave Hurts’ arm strength a vote of confidence, and now a legendary broadcaster has also weighed in.

Merrill Reese told Dave Spadaro that Hurts’ arm strength is on par with some of the top passers in the NFL.

Hurts doesn’t have to have the strongest arm, and if he can show improved accuracy and decision-making, the doubts should start to quiet down.

Improved anticipation and ball delivery could catapult Philadelphia to the top of the NFC playoff picture.
