EA Sports and CONMEBOL have agreed on a multi-year partnership renewal that will see EA remain the exclusive video game partner of the South American football governing body.
After the split between EA and FIFA that saw its 30-year relationship come to an end last year, there were fears over EA's new game EA Sports FC, and if it will be able to replicate the authenticity we know and love in the FIFA video game series. But, EA quickly put those worries to bed, confirming that EA FC 24 will feature over 9,000 fully licensed players, 700 teams and 30 leagues, with the support of over 300 global football partners.
Since the split with FIFA, EA has become the official La Liga title sponsor whilst reportedly striking a deal to be granted an exclusive license with the Premier League. But they haven't stopped there, with EA now retaining their exclusive partnership with CONMEBOL ahead of the EA FC 24 release later this year.
EA Sports remains the exclusive CONMEBOL partner for EA FC 24
“Authenticity is at the very core of the EA Sports FC experience, and through our renewed partnership with CONMEBOL we can celebrate and elevate South American football on a global level,” said David Jackson, the VP of Brand at EA Sports FC. “Our federation partners are key to building an innovative and evolving football platform for fans worldwide, and we are thrilled that CONMEBOL shares our vision for the future of football with EA Sports FC.”
CONMEBOL is one of FIFA's six continental federations, responsible for the organisation of South American football's major international tournaments. The first time we saw CONMEBOL in an EA Sports FIFA title was FIFA 14, with all South American World Cup players in the FIFA 14 World Cup Ultimate Team game mode listed under the CONMEBOL league.
We saw this again in FIFA 18 for the 2018 World Cup, whilst FIFA 19 was the first time we received Ultimate Team cards for CONMEBOL competitions such as CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sudamericana, CONMEBOL Recopa, and CONMEBOL eLibertadores.
As well as using these cards in Ultimate Team, players can play these competitions in online and offline game modes, and we expect this will remain in EA FC 24 following the partnership renewal. As part of EA's efforts to grow and support women's football, the partnership also means EA will become an official real-world tournament sponsor of CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina.
