EA Sports delay FIFA 23 NWSL and UWCL release after ‘critical issue’ in testing

EA Sports has postponed the release of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL) in FIFA 23.

It was announced last week that EA would be expanding the availability of women's football in FIFA 23 with the additions of both the NWSL and the UWCL, with the United States league and the European cup competition initially set to be added to the game today. All 12 National Women’s Soccer League teams were set to be added to FIFA 23 in Kick Off, Tournament Mode, Head to Head season / Co-op Seasons and Online Friendlies.

But, EA announced last night that the release of both the NWSL and UWCL has been pushed back to Thursday, March 23 following an issue faced during testing of their latest title update.

Originally confirmed via EA Sports' FIFA Direct Communications Twitter account, the publisher released the following statement: "Due to an issue encountered during testing of our latest Title Update, we can confirm that the NWSL and UWCL will now be available in FIFA 23 by March 23."

Mirror Gaming has received a comment from an official EA Spokesperson, reiterating the issue with some more detail: "Due to a critical issue encountered during testing of our latest Title Update, we can confirm that the NWSL and UWCL will now be available in FIFA 23 by March 23.

"These partnerships are an important part of our ongoing commitment to elevate and authentically represent women’s football and we look forward to welcoming them into the game. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

When EA confirmed that the NWSL and UWCL were coming to FIFA 23, many fans were excited by the new additions to women's football in-game. As it stands, the Women's Super League (WSL), Division 1 Arkema and a selection of international teams are the only available women's leagues in FIFA 23, so the promised addition of one of the biggest women's leagues and the biggest women's club competition is huge.

EA announced that Real Madrid, Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Juventus are all going to be added to a 'Rest of the World' league in FIFA 23 to boost the number of teams available to use in the women's Champions League, with the new competition available to play in Kick-Off and Tournament mode. As well as both competitions being introduced, four NWSL stadiums, along with authentic kits, starheads, trophies and celebrations will also be added on Thursday, March 23.

Currently, players are limited to the number of game modes to use women's teams in FIFA 23, with a Women's Career Mode or Ultimate Team on many people's wishlists for EA Sports FC, EA's next football game which is expected to be released later this year. With these new additions to FIFA 23, it could possibly be hinting towards more women's football in EA Sports FC.
