Married At First Sight UK viewers have been invested in every twist and turn since the hit series returned to screens at the end of August. But last week, the marital drama came to an end as the remaining couples in the E4 experiment gave their final vows.
However, that wasn't really the end as there was one last dinner party to witness, which aired on E4 on Monday night (October 17) and many fans were eagerly waiting to see the return of all 10 couples who had taken part in the 2022 series, and whether the five couples who made it to the end of the experiments stayed together after the cameras stopped rolling.
And E4 viewers didn't have to wait long to discover the status of the remaining couples with a few shocking splits unveiled with only April and George and Zoe and Jenna still firmly in a seemingly happy relationship.
One of the biggest shocks came when Chanita arrived to the reunion solo, with husband Jordan nowhere to be seen. Their co-stars gasped when they saw her arrive alone and she was soon shedding tears as she was left overwhelmed by arriving solo for the first time since walking down the aisle to marry Jordan.
"When we came out of the experiment, everything just changed," she started to tell Adrian, Gemma, and Kasia. "Basically, I kept saying ‘I feel like you’re not interested in me, you’re not making an effort, you’re not doing this’, and he’s all, ‘no, no, no, I can’t wait to see you’ - and then I was right!."
She then said: "And then he was like, 'oh, I don’t think we’re compatible, I don’t want to be with you' - it was really weird." Jordan then made an energetic appearance and it wasn't until later, in heartbreaking scenes, the former couple opened up about why their marriage hadn’t worked as they finally sat down to have a heart-to-heart.
However, MAFS viewers were left fuming as several had missed out on part of the episode, after only realising when it was too late that the show had undergone a schedule change. Instead of airing in its usual 9pm slot, the reunion aired at 8pm for an extended 75-minute episode.
@TerryFBH complained: "Dear @E4Tweets You could have warned us. Married At First Sight started at 8pm!!!!!!! At least that means fewer potty mouths. #mafsuk #mafs." @AkosuaB49901618 raged: "#MAFSUK I MISSED THE MEMO OF THE 8PM START." @EdJMcConnell ppsted: "Angrier than I should be that E4 has decided after an entire season of 9pm starts to unexpectedly air #MAFSUK at 8pm."
@teenamassam shared: "Damn, why did it start at 8pm instead of 9pm, I’ve missed most of it… #MAFSUK." @twiney3wv tweeted: "E4 thought it fun to just move #MAFSUK to 8pm and not tell anyone kmt." @LizzieNewell_x asked: "Who missed the 8pm start time so now watching #MAFSUK on +1 then?"
But it wasn't long before viewers were distracted from their anger thanks to Matt. It was revealed pretty early on that he and Whitney didn't last beyond the experiment, despite breaking new grounds by swapping the partners they were originally paired with and married for each other.
The tatted barber arrived in a muscle-hugging white t-shirt under a waistcoat which he paired with shorts and trainers. And it wasn't long before he was being mercifully mocked for his attire. @missemmajv tweeted: "When you’ve got a MAFS reunion at 8 & Oktoberfest at 9! #MAFSUK." @WellDrawnMonkey echoed: "Wow. Matt really went all in for #Oktoberfest #mafsuk. Tool!"
@umeskimo asked: "Why is he dressed like he is in the Von Trapp family #MAFSUK." @evangelineparry joked: "When you have a dinner party at 8, but a chimney to sweep at 9. #mafsuk #MAFSUK." @skyyStonee commented: "What the heck is Matt wearing I’m genuinely baffled #MAFSUK."
