In an announcement earlier today, Techland stated its most recent game, Dying Light: The Beast, will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, even though pre-orders on these consoles were available to purchase.
The announcement says the game was made with current-gen consoles in mind, and that it “depend[s] on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide.”
Despite trying, the team was unable to meet adequate performance standards on the older consoles. “This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind,” the studio wrote. “Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience.”
This decision comes after almost two years of availability on PC and current-gen consoles, having launched on September 18, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Some users expressed disappointment in the comments on the Facebook post, while others posted the usual memes, some of which even make fun of last-gen console users. Techland has said anyone who pre-ordered on PS4 and Xbox One will get a full refund.
Dying Light: The Beast has enjoyed a warm reception by fans and critics alike, sitting at mostly positive on Steam and netting a respectable score of 79 on Metacritic. The story follows Kyle Crane, a popular protagonist from previous entries in the series, as he learns to harness new beastly powers. It’s a horror-survival title that remains available on current-gen consoles.
