DWP urges people to help older relatives check for £3,500 annual income boost on Father's Day

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) hopes its’ ‘Pension Credit Week of Action’, will raise awareness about the unique £3,500 income boost only available to those over retirement age. An estimated 850,000 eligible pensioners across the country are missing out on the passport benefit.

Pension Credit gives people extra money to help with living costs if they are over State Pension age and on a low income. It can also provide access to a range of other benefits such as help with housing costs, Council Tax, heating bills and for those aged 75 or over, a free TV licence.

In a new post on social media, DWP is urging people to use Father’s Day to talk to older loved ones they may be visiting about the benefit and check if they should make a claim for the top-up. The quickest way to check if you, or someone you know should claim, is to use the online Pension Credit calculator on GOV.UK here.
