DWP to end two benefit schemes in April 2026: Here's how to transfer to Universal Credit

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that two benefit schemes are being abolished next year amid ongoing efforts to move ‘legacy benefits’ onto the Universal Credit system.

From April 1, 2026, people will no longer be able to claim Income Support (IS) and Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) in the UK, with people instead transitioning to the Universal Credit scheme.
