A state pension error could mean thousands of people are owed back payments of up to £10,000 by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Outdated IT systems and complex rules reportedly led to mistakes by the DWP. A total of 31,817 underpayments were identified between January 2021 and October 2022 - worth £209.3m collectively.
The issue affects largely women who reached state pension age before April 2016 with some having not received the extra state pension payments they’re owed. It is estimated as many as 237,000 pensioners have been affected by the DWP mistake overall, and that around £1.46bn has been underpaid.
