New details about the second instalment of the £650 means-tested cost of living payment have been updated by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). More than 7.2 million households received the first payment for £326 last month and a further one million families claiming Tax Credits will receive the financial support from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in September.
While no specific date for the second payment, worth £324, has been issued yet other than sometime in the Autumn, new guidance from DWP to advisers stated earlier this week that the "second payment will be no later than 31.10.22 to be specified by the Secretary of State in regulations" however, this guidance was updated on August 11 to suggest that October 31 will actually be the latest possible qualifying day for the second payment.
The DWP guidance states: "The qualifying day for the second payment will be no later than 31.10.22, to be specified by the Secretary of State in regulations." No qualifying period for the second payment has been released yet, so it’s unclear if the dates have passed or if they are still to come. HMRC will pay the £324 payment to eligible claimants this winter - no further details have been announced.
