DWP says Universal Credit receivers will get new payment rates from this week

Universal Credit receivers are set to get a 10.1 per cent uprating in benefits this week, says the Department for Work and Pension (DWP). This increase is set to come into place in payments due from May 16.

Claimants of state pensions and most benefits saw their payouts increase on April 10, as part of an annual uprating exercise, reports the Daily Record. But due to payments made in arrears, the new rates will not land in accounts until this month.

Minister for Employment Guy Opperman MP, was asked by Labour MP Dame Nia Griffith whether the uprating “was paid to claimants in their April benefit payment”. In a written response earlier this week, he explained: “Increases in Universal Credit come into force from the start of the first assessment period beginning on or after the first Monday of the tax year.

“As Universal Credit is a calendar monthly assessed benefit that is paid monthly in arrears, a claimant will receive their uprated benefit award in payments due from 16 May.”
