Many households are finding making ends meet is getting harder and harder. With food, fuel and energy costs all among those which have soared money is not always available to provide even the most basic essentials.
To help the most vulnerable the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has created a support package which can give some people more than £1,350 to pay their bills. Depending on the type of help it is paid at different times and in differing amounts.
Help is aimed at the most vulnerable in society. This includes people on low incomes, pensioners and people with disabilities, reports Chronicle Live.
The help comes in a nuber of different forms. It includes the cost of living payment of £600, the disability cost of living payment, pensioner payments and energy bill support.
Those who need the additional help can go to the DWP website where they can see exactly what they are entitled to. This shows a host of benefits and help available including council tax, healthcare costs and television licences.
Cost-of-living support payment - £900
Paid in three instalments, the cost-of-living support payment is paid to everyone on low-income benefits. Those who qualify will be paid three lump sum payments totalling £900.
These are:
- £301 - Spring 2023
- £300 - Autumn 2023
- £299 Spring 2024
This follows on from earlier cost of living payments made in 2022.
Disability cost-of-living payment - £150
Disabled people can get the one-off payment of £150 if they get any of the following benefits:
Attendance Allowance, or
Disability Living Allowance (for adults or for children), or
Personal Independence Payment, or
Scottish Adult Disability Payment, or
Scottish Child Disability Payment, or
Armed Forces Independence Payment, or
Constant Attendance Allowance, or
War Pension Mobility Supplement
If more than one person in the household gets disability benefits, then each eligible person will get £150.
Pensioner payments - £300
The £300 payment will be made to almost every pensioner household in the UK on top of winter fuel payments. That means most people born before September 25 1957 will get Winter Fuel Payments plus an extra £300 this winter.
Energy bill support
The instalments from the energy bill support announced in October will continue. The £400 relief payment is being made in six instalments, leaving up to three more still to come (January, February and March 2023).
