DWP confirms when 6million people will get extra £150 cost of living payment

The Department for Work and Pensions has given an update on when the new £150 disability cost of living payment will be paid to around six million eligible people. The extra payment is for people with disabilities and is designed to help towards rising gas and electricity costs.

It will be paid despite the government's new Energy Price Guarantee capping bills at ab average £2,500 a year instead of the forecast £5,500 a year. And it comes on top of the £400 being given to every household in the country.

The extra £150 will begin to be paid from September 20, with the “vast majority” of those eligible expected to receive the cash by the beginning of October, according to the DWP. Then Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Chloe Smith, was reported by Daily Record as saying: “We know disabled people can face additional costs, which is why we are acting to help reduce the financial pressures on the most vulnerable.

“This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low-income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs.”

Now, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Ms Smith went on to urge people to check the Help for Households site on GOV.UK to make sure they are getting all the support they are entitled to claim.

Who can claim?

You may get a lump sum payment of £150 if you’re getting any award level for one of the following:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Constant Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance for adults
  • Disability Living Allowance for children
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • War Pension Mobility Supplement

You must have received a payment (or later receive a payment) of one of these qualifying benefits for May 25, 2022 to get the £150 payment. If you get a qualifying disability benefit from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and a qualifying disability benefit from DWP, you will get a Disability Cost of Living Payment from DWP only.
