DWP clampdown as your bank and social media could be monitored over Christmas and New Year

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) could monitor your bank and social media activity over the festive period.

The DWP launched a crackdown on benefit fraud earlier this year. The government body shared details of its £613 million plan in May, which it hopes will stop around £2 billion of losses due to fraud and error over the next five years.

The "Fighting Fraud in the Welfare System" plan involves the creation of a new 2,000 strong team. The workers will review the entitlements and circumstances of Universal Credit claims that the DWP deems are at risk of being incorrect.
