Rising household costs are hitting UK households. As people adopt money saving tips to make their income stretch further, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has urged those on Universal Credit to apply for additional financial support if they find themselves struggling in the cost of living crisis.
Around 2.3 million people who receive Universal Credit - 40 per cent of all those on the benefit - are already in work, with the benefit topping up low wages. Campaigners have warned that claimants are facing a real-term cut in their income because payments are not keeping pace with inflation.
Others claiming the benefit, who are out of work, are to be encouraged into employment much earlier as part of the Government's Way to Work jobs push, reports Birmingham Live. Adding that Child Poverty Action Group has said that because DWP benefits have risen by 3.1 per cent this April when inflation has hit 7 per cent, most of the two million families on Universal Credit face a cut of around £570 per year in social security support.
