DWP £900 cost of living payments affected by 'clunky system - calls for more frequent payments

MPs say "clunky" Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) systems mean struggling families will not be able to receive monthly cost of living payments next winter. The Government has announced that cost of living payments worth £900 will be given to those on means-tested benefits, with three payments made in spring 2023, autumn 2023 and spring 2024.

But MPs on the Treasury Committee called for these payments to be spread out across six instalments next winter. The MPs argued that smaller, more frequent support payments would smooth the "cliff-edges" which arise when someone who earns just one pound too much, or becomes eligible for a benefit a day too late, receives no support, LancashireLive reports.
