LAS VEGAS – Waldo Cortes-Acosta has big aspirations after securing a contract at Dana White’s Contender Series 48.
Cortes-Acosta (7-0) scored his third straight knockout when he finished Danilo Suzart in the first round at the UFC Apex on Tuesday.
But the goal isn’t just to be a UFC fighter. Cortes-Acosta wants to take out everyone ahead of him until he reaches heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
“I just want to keep going, and for every opponent they put in front of me, I just want to destroy them,” Cortes-Acosta told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Tuesday’s DWCS 48 post-fight news conference. “And I’m going to keep doing that until I get to Francis Ngannou.”
The undefeated fighter from the Dominican Republic already has competed three times in 2022 and is ready to return as soon as the UFC on ESPN 41 card in San Diego, which is in less than two weeks.
“They already were talking in the back about San Diego on (Aug. 13),” Cortes-Acosta said. “I guess you’re going to see me out there, just pushing forward and hitting people.”
