The DVLA's latest update shows processing times reaching as long as an eight-week backlog.
There are ongoing delays with processing paper applications due to the pandemic and previous industrial action by the Public and Commercial Services union.
The Department of Vehicles issues a weekly update on processing times on Mondays.
The longest wait is for those who have applied to change their name or address on driving licences.
Its online services are working normally, meaning that if you applied online, your application is already being processed.
In fact, drivers are encouraged to apply online where possible to avoid delays.
The DVLA says there are ongoing delays with driving licence applications where further information is needed from doctors.
Some people may not be able to drive while their application is being processed under the criteria listed here.
