The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) raided the houses of three Block Development Officers (BDOs), over corruption charges in Dharmapuri on Friday. M. Anandan, A. Madhalaimuthu, M. Jayaraman, formerly BDOs, Paapireddipatti panchayat union have been accused of corruption in erecting LED high mast lights in Paapireddipatti panchayat union, during their successive tenures as BDOs between 2016 and 2019. Two private persons have been named in the FIR lodged by the DVAC, that has named the three BDOs as the main accused. M. Anandan, currently posted as BDO, DRDA, in Kallakurichi district was working as BDO of Paapireddipatti between June 2016 to February, 2017. Madhalaimuthu, currently posted as BDO, Audit, DRDA had taken charge after Anandan, and held office from February 2017 to April 2018. M. Jayaraman, currently BDO, Harur was posted as BDO Paapireddipatty between April 2018 to January 2019. Anandan, Madhalaimuthu and Jayaraman, had succeeded each other in that order as Block Development Officers of Paapireddipatti panchayat union between 2016 and 2019. The first two accused, Anandan and Madhalaimuthu during their successive tenures, had circumvented tendering process for work for erecting LED high mast lights and favoured two private parties for apportioning of the work at higher costs in Paapireddipatti panchayat union, as per the FIR. Anandan, had apportioned works to the tune of ₹1.33 crore without calling for tenders, favouring two private parties, G. Mathivanan, proprietory, Sky Traders and N.P. Kumar, Proprietor, Kumar electrical and hardwares, Paapireddipatti. The third accused Jayaraman, is accused of willfully failing to report the actions of the former two BDOs, and instead had cleared the cheques for payments, according to the FIR. On Friday, Jayaraman’s house in A. Pallipatti; Madalaimuthu’s house in Emmakutiyur and in Anandan’s house in Kurinji Nagar in Harur were raided by DVAC sleuths.
