Dutch Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing In Rotterdam

Dutch police are seeking witnesses following a stabbing incident in Rotterdam that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and left a 33-year-old man from Switzerland seriously injured. The attack took place near the iconic Erasmus Bridge, with a 22-year-old suspect from Amersfoort being apprehended by members of the public and police after the incident.

While the motive for the attack remains unclear, witnesses reported the assailant shouting 'Allahu akbar' during the assault. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the suspect or the victims in accordance with Dutch privacy regulations.

A sports instructor, who intervened by striking the attacker with sticks and disarming him, described the chaotic scene where the assailant was wielding two large knives. The instructor's quick actions helped prevent further harm to bystanders.

According to police spokespersons, the attacker allegedly targeted one individual in an underground parking lot before moving on to attack a second victim near a busy terrace close to the bridge. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the need to gather all witness testimonies to determine the motive behind the attack.

Law enforcement officials are set to question the suspect to gain more insights into the incident. The police are committed to thoroughly examining all available information to establish the reasons behind the violent assault in Rotterdam.
