The Los Angeles Dodgers are already the best team in baseball and they got even a little better last night when pitcher Dustin May made his return from Tommy John surgery and picked up a win after striking out nine batters in just five innings of work.
If you’re not familiar with May then you should be because when he’s healthy he has what might be the filthiest stuff in all of baseball.
He quickly reminded everyone of that last night when he struck out the side in the first inning. Again, this was his first start since May of 2021 and he just casually did things like this:
Welcome back, Dustin May! 😷 pic.twitter.com/7W70ORShEr

Miami’s Jon Berti had no chance on those.
Look at this slider:

And this slider:
This Dustin May Slider was 3,406 RPMs. 😳 https://t.co/PB9k5HLTL9

Just unreal stuff. MLB fans were in awe.

Nothing that comes out of May’s hand is straight. The ball is moving left, right, up, or down. Don’t know how hitters can square up on those pitches. https://t.co/ZDnpEFv3Kj

You need pitches that differ in 1) velocity, 2) movement, and/or placement. Or ALL THREE if you can!! https://t.co/knIrlNZcDu

As a fellow ginger, I support Dustin May’s comeback. Poor batter never stood a chance on those pitches https://t.co/IXqX9IB0RP

Nasty nasty slider by #DustinMay – wow, nice to have him back in the @Dodgers rotation. He’s looking scary great after #TommyJohnSurgery – no doubt Roberts will go easy on his pitch counts for now, but it sure looks like we have another budding ace on the #Dodger pitching staff. https://t.co/6qqapyZi8D

The crazy thing is from this angle it already adjusted to be just out of the zone anyway. So that swing is hilarious https://t.co/XN2ugKUPZe
