Durham Restaurant Week dates announced as cut-price event returns for a second time with offers starting at £10

A week of cheap meal deals is set to get under way across Durham with restaurants offering opportunities to dine out 'around the world' from as little as £10.

It's been announced that Durham Restaurant Week, which made its debut before the pandemic, will be back for a second helping at the end of the month with a range of special offers available from January 28 until February 4. And lucky diners will be able to pick from a cuisine including Turkish, Spanish, Mexican and Japanese.

A mix of restaurants, cafes and bars have signed up to take part in the event which is being hosted by business improvement district company Durham BID for a second year. The hope is that it will both help to beat the winter blues and encourage people to explore the local food scene.

Venues taking part in Durham Restaurant Week include The Boat Club & Tomahawk Steakhouse; Turtle Bay; The Curious Mr Fox, Old Toms Gin Bar; Tealicious Tea Room; Zapatista; Tortilla; Gusto; Tapas Factory and the Collage Restaurant at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Customers will be able to choose from a mix of £10, £15, £20 and £25 special menus and BID manager Paul Howard said: “The city has an amazing food and drink scene with lots of independents as well as big-name restaurants". He added: "Whether it’s visiting their favourite place or trying something new, customers can enjoy dining out at bargain prices during the week.”

Emma Wright, who has a marketing and events role with the company, said: “Durham BID successfully held a Restaurant Week in 2019 which was organised by the former management team. As a new BID team, we decided to bring back the event post-Covid - and we are hopeful we can build Restaurant Week into our events calendar year on year.”

Rich Morgan, general manager of The Boat Club & Tomahawk Steakhouse on Elvet Riverside, said: "It's great to see Durham city have an official restaurant week - why should Newcastle and Teesside get to have all the fun? We know from experience how our sister brands, Tomahawk Steakhouse and Rio Brazilian Steakhouse, benefit from such a great offer.

“All venues should be on board with anything that promotes people staying here as opposed to a short train journey over the Tyne."

To take advantage of the week's special deals, customers just need to either pre-book with their chosen restaurant or ensure that they choose from the special Restaurant Week menu when visiting for a meal between January 28 and February 4.
