A three-strike burglar who snuck into an elderly woman’s home to snatch cash has been jailed.
James Roland Carr repeatedly targeted vulnerable residents in Gilesgate Moor in Durham last month, asking to carry out odd jobs for them in return for money, claiming he needed help to support an elderly relative who was ill.
At one point he even stole from a woman’s garage, after entering without permission and persistently hassled a university student who took pity on him and lent him £240.

This was in breach of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) previously imposed by the court.
Durham Crown Court heard on Tuesday how the 20-year-old was banned from pestering residents for work at their homes but was breaching his CBO within weeks of it being imposed.
Carr, of Hilda Close, Sherburn Road Estate, Durham, admitted two charges of burglary and two breaches of his CBO, having previously admitted several similar breaches. The string of burglaries also put him in breach of a suspended 12-week prison sentence.
Carr was sentenced to three years in a young offenders’ institution, and his CBO was also extended by three years. The two women he burgled were also granted five-year restraining orders against him.
