Police are hunting for two thieves on a motorcycle, who snatched valuables from two Chinese women on a moving tuk-tuk late at night near the Pathumwan intersection in Bangkok.

It happened on Tuesday night on Rama I Road at a bus stop in front of the Pathumwan Institute of Technology, police said.

Chinese tourist Chang Tsi Weng, 21, and her Hong Kong friend said the incident left them shocked.

Ms Chang said the motorcycle carrying two male suspects, described as heavyset and wearing black shirts, pulled up alongside the tuk-tuk in which she and her friend were riding. One of the men snatched her bag from the moving vehicle. Ms Chang tried unsuccessfully to grab it back, tearing a fingernail in the process.

Inside the bag was her passport, Hong Kong ID card, an iPhone X, her wallet, 1,000 baht and HK$500 (2,000 baht) in cash — yet to be found.

The suspects fled on their motorcycle towards the Pathumwan intersection.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage to track then down.
