A Dunnes Store branded Jaffa Cake has beaten the popular McVitie’s treat in a comparison taste test.
We put the controversial “cake or biscuit” to the test - and with a little help from Jaffa Cake super fan, 11-year old, Sean Donohoe - we came up with these results.
According to Sean, who tasted both cakes blindfolded - the Dunnes Stores cakes were “sweeter” and “softer”.

He preferred them over the Jaffa Cakes because they were “less crunchy” compared to the original brand.
The Dunnes brand had a stronger taste of chocolate when compared to the McVitie’s brand too.
As well, the Dunnes cake had a darker, more stronger flavour of orange in the middle.
The price comparison is also jaw dropping with Dunnes Jaffa Cakes costing just 99 cents for 24 and the original brand costing €3.49 for 20 of them.
This means you’re better off buying the Dunnes version as one Jaffa Cake will cost you 4 cents.
Meanwhile, one original Jaffa Cake would be 17 cents.
Overall, you’re saving €2.50 and getting four extra Jaffa Cakes if you choose the Dunnes Stores treat.
