Theo Bleak couldn’t believe it when the call came in last week.
The Dundee singer - aka Katie Lynch - wasn’t sure she’d heard correctly.
The 27-year-old’s manager asked if she fancied supporting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds this Saturday night in her home city.
And it was a no-brainer for the former Grove Academy pupil.
Not only would she be playing with one of her musical idols growing up, but the Slessor Gardens gig would give her a chance to play in front of a raucous home crowd.
Speaking to Dundee Live about the amazing opportunity, Katie said: “I’ve always regarded Oasis as the second biggest band in the world behind the Beatles and have grown up with their music.
“Hopefully I’ll get a chance to chat to Noel behind the scenes at the weekend too.
“He’s well known for supporting new young bands and singers and giving them a platform, so it’s a real boost that his team maybe saw something in me and invited me to support them.”
Katie has promised a high-energy set inspired by some of her favourite 90s bands.
She’s heavily influenced by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley and Alexisonfire.
She recently released her debut EP ‘Fragments’ - with its six tracks tackling mental health and relationship woes among other subjects.
Talking about Saturday night, she added: “I’ll obviously tailor the set to what I think the Dundee crowd will like.
“I love the idea of playing in front of people that may not have heard of me but who may go home after the gig and check my music out.”
She explained how creating Theo gave her a fresh way to express herself, saying: “For me, it’s all about being authentic. Creating Theo gave me an outlet to look at my life through more forgiving eyes.
“I like Theo so that makes it easier for me to release songs about my experiences."
And she added: "I can’t wait for Saturday night to come.
“I just want folk to come out, listen to some great music from some fantastic bands and really enjoy themselves.”
