Dundee City Council's key appointments announced following local elections

Dundee’s majority SNP administration has unveiled how it will fill key appointments following the recent local election success.

They gained one seat in the West End, taking their group to fifteen - the only SNP majority in Scotland.

Dundee City Council’s five service committees - those that lead the council's policy creation and decision making - will be led by five female and five male councillors, for the first time.

Other key appointments on nearly 50 external organisations and bodies such as the Dundee International Women's Centre and Dundee Science Centre will also be set out when Dundee City Council meets to confirm nominations on Monday 23rd May.

Councillor Bill Campbell was announced as the new Lord Provost with Kevin Cordell his Depute.

The SNP's Council Leader-elect, Councillor John Alexander said: "Our team are energised and focussed. From Monday, our SNP administration will be getting to grips with a diverse and challenging agenda, which includes the current cost-of-living crisis.

"I am delighted that our team's hard work was recognised at the ballot box but now we must prove that people's faith was well placed and that is exactly what we plan to do.

"Unveiling these positions marks an important milestone and allows the diverse range of skills within our group to be deployed across the council, including our very welcome new colleagues.

And he added: “It's always exciting to have new talent and a fresh perspective and I have no doubts that Heather, Nadia and Siobhan will all hit the ground running and contribute positively to the council."

New SNP member, Councillor Nadia El-Nakla, who helped the group achieve their majority said;"It's such an honour to be elected to represent the West End and it's an even greater honour to be taking up the role of Depute Convener of Neighbourhood Services.

"It's also fantastic to see a more diverse council, with female representation increasing in both the SNP and Labour groups, which can only be a good thing for the city.

"Dundee, in spite of all of the challenges it has faced, continues to grow in confidence and set itself apart. I look forward to working with my SNP colleagues in improving the city further and delivering real change."
