Dundalk and Hull City have put investment talks ‘on ice’, according to Lilywhites chairman Sean O’Connor.
The English Championship outfit was one of three parties interested in buying part of the Oriel Park club.
But Hull owner Acun Ilicali is also weighing up other investment options in Ireland and was at Richmond Park on Friday as a guest of Shelbourne for their clash with St Pat’s.
Speaking to ‘Inside Oriel’, O’Connor said today: “We had conversations with Hull and that is apparent now, it's been well covered.
“But we're at a point in those conversations where we're not going to progress with them at this point.
“We both decided to put things on ice and we're not going to be going forward at this point. These conversations come and go.”
O’Connor continued: “Certain conversations will go down a path and they won't move on.
“But that is the nature of this business, that is the nature of football. That is what we expect to happen.”
Last week, Hull City manager Liam Rosenior went on record about the club’s interest in Dundalk and suggested there could be an alignment in how the two teams play.
That suggested talks were advancing, but Dundalk’s owners issued a lengthy open letter to fans on the morning of their game with Bohemians to say no deals were done.
And today, O’Connor added: “From how the last seven days went, the things that happened took us all by surprise.
“It was never as close as it was being made out in the last seven days.”
