Duncan Ferguson odds slashed for new manager's job amid Everton links

Odds have been slashed on Blues favourite Duncan Ferguson to take over at League One side Forest Green Rovers amid links to the vacant Everton position.

Reports suggest the former Scotland forward looks set to be appointed to his first permanent role following the departure of Ian Burchnall. Rovers sit at the foot of the table in the English third tier, four points from safety.

Following the sacking of Frank Lampard, Ferguson was touted as a potential candidate for the Goodison Park hot seat, having previously served as caretaker manager.

But it would appear a different job might be in the offing for the former striker. His odds for the Forest Green job were slashed from 20/1 to 1/4 on Wednesday, while reports have suggested he has been in 'advanced talks' with the League One club.

Should he make the move to the third tier, it would rule out one of the early favourites for the Everton job. Speaking about his previous stint in charge of the Blues, Ferguson told BT Sport in September 2022: "I didn’t think I had a job for life when I was in that role, believe me, when you’re in that job [manager] you can lose it at any time.

"It was a fantastic time for myself, I was here 20 years, came down in 1994 believe it or not and it was a big big heartache to leave the club. I just felt it was the right time to leave the club, right time to leave in my career but I miss the place. I’ve got to move on with my career."
