Dumfries supermarket worker Anne Croucher is on a mission to provide every care home in the town with a chocolate Easter egg for elderly residents to enjoy.
She set the ball rolling this week on her public-spirited campaign by setting up a collection box in the Tesco Extra store at Cuckoo Bridge – and is appealing for staff and customers to fill it up over the next few weeks.
Anne, the store’s community champion, was joined by its manager, Colin McSheffrey, in donating the first 100 Easter eggs funded by Tesco.
She told the Standard: “We would really love to be able to give an Easter egg to every single one of the residents who are in care homes in Dumfries.
“They have had a really tough time through the pandemic and this would be a lovely treat for them. Who doesn’t enjoy chocolate at Easter? And it would mean so much to them to know that others in the community care about them.
“We would be grateful for any donations of Easter eggs and anyone who wants to donate one can put it into the box situated just inside the store.
“Ultimately, we are looking for up to 500 eggs.”
Among those which will benefit are: Allanbank Care Home, Abbey Gardens Care Home, Charnwood Lodge Care home, Dalawoodie House Nursing Home, Goldielea Nursing Home and Lochduhar Care Home.
