Top local curling talent has been on show this week at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.
The Scottish Curling Championships has been taking place, with more than a dozen players from the region vying for the titles in the men’s and women’s sections.
Bruce Mouat’s Winter Olympic silver medallists rink, consisting of Kirkgunzeon’s Grant Hardie and the Stranraer duo of Hammy McMillan and Bobby Lammie, were tied with former Dumfries Curling Club player Ross Whyte after the opening five matches with perfect records. Both rinks are on course to meet in Saturday afternoon’s final, which starts at 4pm.
Dumfries rink O Carson sat third in the round robin standings in their rink, made up of Dalbeattie duo Orrin and Logan Carson with team mates Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb of Dumfries.
Jack Strawhorn’s local rink is propping up the men’s draw as they were looking for their first win of the week.
On the women’s side of the draw, the Aberdeenshire rink of Rebecca Morrison, which has Dumfries curler Sophie Jackson in the squad, has dominated this week and were a perfect 6-0.
Dumfries’ Fay Henderson had her rink in joint third with a 3-3 record heading into yesterday’s games with a chance of making the playoff.
Team Dumfries had a difficult week and were 0-6 as of yesterday.
The women will start at 11am and the men’s final will begin at 4pm.
