Dumfries Hockey Club trio land silver medals at Masters World Cup

Three women hockey players from Dumfries returned home from a prestigious South African tournament with silver medals recently.

Dumfries Hockey Club’s Mags Miller, Angie Beattie and Gladys McClymont were representing Scottish teams in the Masters World Cup in Cape Town.

Mags Miller won silver in the W55s and Angie Beattie and Gladys McClymont took silver medals in the W60s.

The club would like to congratulate them all for their success in the competition which was initially planned for 2020 but was delayed because of the pandemic.

Results

Scotland O55s group matches – win v South Africa; 2-0 win v Chile; 1-0 win v USA; win v Ireland; win v Argentina (Scotland first in their group).

Semi-final: 1-0 win v Holland.

Final: 1-0 defeat to England.

O60s group matches – 2-1 win v Wales; win v Belgium; 1-1 draw v Argentina; 4-0 win v South Africa (goal from Angie). Scotland first in their group.

Semi-final: 3-0 win v Holland.

Final: 5-0 defeat to England.

Scotland fielded W50s, W55s, W60s and W65s teams in the competition and all four teams won medals – silver medals for the W55s, W60s and W65s, and a bronze medal for the W50s.

Masters hockey in Scotland continues to grow and Dumfries Hockey Club is extremely proud of their players who represent their country – John Bennett (M65s); Vicky Johnstone (W40s); Ally McCubbin (W45s), along with Mags, Angie and Gladys.
