Dumfries curler helps Scotland qualify for World Mixed Curling Championships knock-out stages

Dumfries curler Scott Hyslop has played his part in helping Scotland qualify for the knockout stages of the World Mixed Curling Championships in Aberdeen.

The 20-year-old, alongside teammates Cameron Bryce, Lisa Davie and Robyn Munro, have Scotland off to a 6-1 start in Aberdeen.

Scotland won their first four matches of the tournament to get off to a flyer.

They opened up their tournament on Saturday with a 9-3 win over Hungary and followed that up later the same day with an 8-2 victory against Slovakia.

Wins over Luxembourg (8-3) and England (13-4) came on Sunday and Monday before they tasted defeat against Switzerland on Tuesday (9-6).

They bounced back later that day with an 8-1 win over Mexico and on Wednesday they beat Austria 11-6.

Scotland were due to take on Australia yesterday afternoon to finish off the round robin stage having already sealed qualification.

Scotland could still qualify top of Group C if Switzerland lose their last two games and Scotland beat the Aussies.

Meanwhile Olympic and European Champs Team Muirhead, which includes vice skip and Dumfries-born Vicky Drummond, have been shortlisted for Team of the Year in the 2022 Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year awards. To vote go to www.sportswomenoftheyear.co.uk.
