Dumfries couple Norma and Jim Mackenzie have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary after first meeting on a hockey pitch.
The blue sapphire wedding party was topped off when Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries, Fiona Armstrong, dropped into their Georgetown home to present a card on behalf of King Charles.
Norma, 87, a former primary head teacher in the town, said: “We got a card from the King on our anniversary last week, which was April 5, and Jim gave me a sapphire ring.
“We first met on a hockey pitch at the Crichton.
“My friend took me up to play in a mixed teams game and I don’t know if we won, but I won him!”
The couple were wed at Dumfries Congregational Church.
Jim, 89, a former horticultural manager, joked about their secret for a long marriage by saying: “She feeds me well!”
And Norma, nee Fisher, revealed: “It’s down to perseverance.”
The couple have two daughters, Lyn and Jill, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
