Dumfries and Galloway MP Alister Jack stuck by Boris Johnson until the bitter end.
The Prime Minister announced yesterday he would stand down in the autumn.
That followed a dramatic two days in Westminster, sparked by the resignations of Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid on Tuesday evening.
Their departures prompted a string of resignations by Tories, including Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell.
But Scottish Secretary Mr Jack did not quit or call for the PM to go, having stood by him during the partygate scandal.
Speaking yesterday, he said: “I am sad to see Boris Johnson stand down as Prime Minister.
“He has achieved a huge amount in office, including delivering Brexit, supporting the country through Covid, and leading the international response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Most importantly, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen the union.
“I know that the next leader of the party will build on Boris Johnson’s many achievements.”
On Tuesday evening, former Scottish Secretary David Mundell stood down from his role as trade envoy to New Zealand, a post he had held since August.
The Dumfriesshire MP visited New Zealand last month and last week met with the country’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, in London.
In a Tweet, he said: “Earlier this week I wrote to the chairman of the 1922 Committee confirming I had no confidence in the Prime Minister and asking that a further vote of confidence be held. I hope this can now take place as a matter of urgency.
