Dumfries and Galloway martial artist scoops gold at Special Olympics World Games

A martial arts star has scooped gold at the Special Olympics World Games.

Sean Allan, who lives near Castle Douglas, came out on top in the judo competition in Berlin.

The 20-year-old won both his bouts on Saturday to claim the gold medal.

Sean, who trains with Castle Douglas Judo Club, was the only one of more than 80 British athletes in Germany who was taking part in the judo competition.

Sean attends both Dumfries and Galloway College and the Better Lives Partnership and first attended the club in 2011 when he was just eight.

More than 7,000 other athletes from around the world took part in the Special Olympics World Games.
