A bid is to be made for £14 million to improve the region’s transport network.
It’s one of a number of proposals chosen by councillors to be part of a submission to the UK Government’s Levelling Up fund.
The local authority is looking to secure more than £30 million of cash from the fund to support a variety of projects across Dumfries and Galloway.
Tuesday’s full council meeting saw members agree which developments should go forward.
One of those is to improve the region’s transport infrastructure with electric buses, improved cycle ways and five electric vehicle hubs.
Tory councillor Andrew Wood, left, asked if other fuel sources, not just electricity, had been considered.
Neighbourhood services boss, Harry Hay, said that due to the timescales involved “fully electric is deemed to be preference at this point” but added “hydrogen is certainly something we wish to explore as an authority moving forward”.
A bid will also be made for £8.6 million to support Annan Harbour Action Group’s regeneration of the town’s harbour, including boatbuilding, water sports, a maritime heritage centre and visitor accommodation.
The local authority also hopes to secure £5.4 million for Dalbeattie Community Initiative’s Rocks and Wheels project to create an outdoor centre featuring cycling, running, walking and climbing in the town’s old primary school.
A report for members said it is hoped the UK Government will tell the council if their bid has been successful in the autumn.
